DMS Sonographer, Instructor & Clinical Coordinator

Great Lakes Institute of Technology, Erie PA, is seeking a full-time qualified DMS Sonographer who would enjoy dividing their time between classroom instruction and clinical coordination for the DMS program.   This is a great opportunity to support student learning and to teach the next generation the highly technical skills required in this field. This position is responsible for not only providing instruction to our DMS students but also coordinating clinical education when students are entering their externships. The amount of time dedicated towards teaching or clinical coordination activities may not be equally distributed but more determined by workload, need in a given area, and class schedules which will vary across terms.

  • Position: DMS INSTRUCTOR/CLINICAL COORDINATOR
  • Job Status: Full-time
  • Hours: Monday-Friday.
  • Instruction:  The DMS program runs both day and evening classes (M-Th).
  • Wage: Competitive salary/compensation is commensurate with experience
  • Position requires travel to clinical sites and with on-site hours required “in person” at the school.

Essential Functions – Instructor

  • Maintain a positive, professional, and safe classroom environment conducive to learning while ensuring instructional methods and strategies meet the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Supervise/monitor student progress & attendance while maintaining accurate student progress records and grades.
  • Deliver instruction following pre-approved curriculum and lesson plans.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond accurately to questions from students, managers, clients and customers.
  • Deliver instructional content that appropriately prepares the students to pass the national registry exams.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and effectively deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exits.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, graduation and other school events as assigned.

 Essential Functions-Clinical Coordinator

  • Working with the Director of Clinical Coordination to coordinate clinical and externship assignments, ensuring appropriate clinical supervision at each site.
  • Ensure clinical education effectiveness through a schedule of regular visits to the clinical affiliates and externship sites
  • Working with the Director, developing new clinical and externship affiliates, including all contracts and paperwork, as required.
  • Travel to extern sites as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit course grade rosters, according to established guidelines.
  • Track clinical education behavior in terms of absenteeism, tardiness, and discipline.
  • Ensure students are prepared to take national registry exams
  • Coordinate with the Director of Clinical Coordination, Program Director and/or Director of Education at all times to ensure the successful operation of the educational program.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of all learning competencies identified in the common and the general concentration, as defined by JRC-DMS.
  • Knowledge of all regulatory standards relevant to DMS education.
  • Appropriate ultrasound credential(s) specific to general concentration
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a sonographer
  • Must exhibit the ability to interpret varied instructions furnished in written, oral diagram or schedule form.
  • Must be credentialed by the ARDMS, AB, OB/GYN.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Products with the ability to learn additional software as needed.

 Preferred Requirements:

  • BS/BA degree preferred but not required.
  • Ability to instruct enrolled students in AB, OB/GYN and to establish externship sites for students in these areas is preferred
  • Proficiency in teaching methodology, supervision, instruction, evaluation, and curriculum development preferred
  • Ability to travel to clinical sites to meet accreditation standards.
