Alumni Spotlight Diana Meyer - Massage Therapist Graduate

In this Alumni Spotlight we caught up with Diana Meyer, graduate of the 9 month Massage Therapist training program who currently works at A Compassionate Hart Massage Therapy in Erie PA.

What where you doing prior to enrollment? What made you enroll in school?

Prior to enrolling at Great Lakes I was working as a server, which I have done most of my life, plus I was also leading group fitness classes. I've always enjoyed helping people in my work, but I felt that I needed a more impactful way of doing this. I had been interested in Massage Therapy and on a whim, I stopped in at Great Lakes to get some information. Clarissa was so helpful and informative! I signed up for classes that day!

Where have you worked since you graduated and where do you currently work? What is your title?

I'm an LMT at A Compassionate Hart Massage Therapy in Erie PA and I love it there!

What types of things do you do there day to day?

My day-to-day involves reading through my client’s intake forms and any prior notes from my co-therapist on their past massages. I then meet with the client and talk with them to find out what they need that particular day. I try to check in with them throughout their massage to make sure they are getting what they need. Afterwards I make notes on their massage, so that the therapist for their next massage knows what was done.

What do you like about your career?

I love helping my clients to feel better by eliminating their pain and restoring their mobility. Helping them to relax is key!

What did you like most about attending Great Lakes? How did Great Lakes prepare you for your job?

While in school I really liked how in-depth the classes where and that we got so much practical time to help us become comfortable giving massages … as well as getting daily massages!!

What are your career goals for the future?

I am currently working on my Reiki certification, plus I recently attended an in-depth training on Myofascial release therapy. I am looking forward to adding these techniques into my messages to better help my clients and their healing!

What advice can you give current students and new graduates that can help them be successful?

The best advice I can give is to study hard and believe in yourself! It will all come together for you, and you will be in the best hands at Great Lakes!!
