Great Lakes welcomes the newest member of our Program Director Team, Sandy McDannel. Sandy joins our team after more than 13 years in veterinary medicine. She has held positions in Veterinary Assisting, office and practice management at Banfield Pet Hospital, Detroit Dover Animal Hospital, Wintergreen Animal Hospital, and the Northwest PA Pet Emergency Center. Here\’s what Sandy says about her experience during her first 6 months at Great Lakes.
I couldn\’t be more grateful for this wonderful experience. Not only have I joined a great team of professionals, but I\’ve also gained a community of support who have the same goals as I do. The veterinary practices have been helpful on my journey of learning how best to manage and improve the program, as well as the best way to help sharpen our students\’ clinical skills while on externship. I have found that the area\’s veterinary, animal welfare, and pet care communities are truly invested in Great Lakes in the hopes of hiring our graduates to fill an ever-growing profession.
In 2015, I\’m looking forward to including more in-depth study of emergency treatment, critical monitoring, and the most up-to-date protocols in veterinary medicine. We will continue to partner with Henry-Schien to provide the materials for this endeavor, as well as seeking the advice of our Program Advisory Committee to make sure we meet the standards of care our animal community demands. I look forward to continuing to work with the doctors and business owners who have made it their mission to help our four-legged family members live better lives.
