Greg Doty is a 2011 graduate of the Surgical Technologist program at Great Lakes Institute of Technology. We had a chance to catch up with him recently, and this is what he had to share.
Before attending GLIT, I was working a few part time jobs and needed to make a plan for my future. I liked GLIT because it was a great student to teacher ratio and the hands on learning environment. The Surg Tech program prepared me for my eventual job at the Cleveland Clinic.
The best part of my job is knowing that I truly effect a patient\’s life and give them a chance to live longer. There is no one case that I can say was the most interesting, but every day I take part in cardiac surgery on the sickest patients in the world. A few of the most interesting cases are heart/lung transplants, and homograft, which is the replacement of a person\’s aorta and aortic valve with a donors cryo frozen tissue.
Moving to Cleveland was a great opportunity for my career and an opportunity to start fresh and create my own life. Embarking on my career at the Clinic gave me the opportunity to go about my hobbies of working out and golfing. GLIT gave me the tools to succeed and start my life comfortably!
