We recently caught up with Massage Therapist grad Elizabeth Bruner. Read below about her new career and what she has been up to!
I attended the Massage Therapist program at Great Lakes and graduated in 2013 with a 4.0. When I graduated, I knew I wanted to relocate to Myrtle Beach SC, so I researched the state requirements to ensure I was able to apply for my license. After passing the MBLEx, I applied for my license and received it within two weeks. I was an LMT!!
When I first moved to Myrtle Beach, I was a server and struggled financially while I was looking for a massage job. Luckily, I found an apartment a block away from Majestic Massage and Day Spa and applied, even though they were not hiring at the time. Two weeks later, I got the call I was waiting for – they were so impressed with my qualifications that I was hired!
I started working right away and learned the signature massage services provided at the spa. I learned how to incorporate stretching, ROM, Thai compressions, steamed towels, and hot stones into my massage. The manager also helped me to learn how to use my body weight with gravity to apply deeper pressure and prevent injury to myself.
Now, I\’m a full time therapist for Majestic Massage and Day Spa, working only eight hours within the business hours of 9am-9pm. As an independent contractor, I make 50% commission on any service I provide from the most popular Signature Majestic Massage to body treatments. Because it is Myrtle Beach\’s most highly recommended spa, I make on average $3,000 a month after taxes.
Since graduating and moving here, my life has changed positively in many ways. I can sleep normal hours at night, I have more free time to enjoy life, and I live at the beach! I also can take the time to plan healthy meals, work out, and also learn more advanced techniques from the other LMTs at Majestic. I could not be happier with the career field I have chosen!
