Tina Strange had been employed in the banking industry for ten years prior to coming to Great Lakes Institute of Technology. She always knew she wanted a career in the medical field. One Sunday morning, while reading the news, Tina saw an ad for Great Lakes, and she asked herself, \”what am I waiting for?\” The time was now! She called the school and scheduled a tour. Little did Tina know, that one phone call is all it took to capture her dreams and bring them to life!
Tina completed her externship with West Penn Allegheny Health Systems, Lake Erie OB-GYN, where she was offered a full time job. While on externship, Tina put forth her best effort and applied herself. She received three job offers prior to sitting for her certification test, which she passed successfully! Her perseverance paid off! Tina accepted the position with Lake Erie OB-GYN, where they see approximately 200-250 patients per day, between four providers. But she\’s nowhere near the finish line yet! Tina is currently exploring RN options in the area to further her education and one day become a Registered Nurse. The Medical Assistant program at Great Lakes was merely a stepping stone, placing her one step closer to reaching her final goal!
During her training at Great Lakes Institute of Technology, Tina admits she was a little apprehensive. There were times when she didn\’t understand how the curriculum applied to her future. There were times she wanted to give up. There were times when Tina had to put forth a little extra effort to push herself to get through the nine month program. But looking back, Tina explains, \”all my classes make sense now. It\’s important to take the instructions you receive seriously, even if it doesn\’t make sense at the time, because once you get in an office you have to bring your A-Game!! I still reference my pharmacology book to this day! Apply yourself and take the education you are receiving seriously. Maintain a professional mindset and you will go far in your career!\”
